Summary
Betsafe is a big European-based online casino and they offer a wide selection of roulette games. However, their support is terrible, and their withdrawals are slower than average.
It's a solid option if you're looking to play a variety of roulette games from lots of different game providers, but it's not the kind of place I'm excited to play at. It's a well-oiled machine, but they've lost their personality along the way.
You can't go wrong with Betsafe, but they're not memorable.
Company: Good
- BML Group Ltd
- Betsson Experience Centre, Ta' Xbiex Seafront, Ta' Xbiex, XBX 1027, Malta
- Malta
- 2024 years old
Licenses:
Betsafe Casino is run BML Group Ltd (and BS Nordic Ltd in Sweden). The parent company is Betsson AB, which is a major European gambling operator that has been around since 1963.
The most popular online casinos they own are:
- Betsson - Their flagship brand. Aimed at sports betting.
- Betsafe - A better looking alternative to Betsson. Aimed at casino games and poker.
- NordicBet - Brand for Scandinavia.
Betsson is original brand. They purchased Betsafe in 2011 for roughly €60m (from an independent Malta-based company with origins in Norway) and they now run it alongside Betsson. I personally prefer the look of Betsafe and I've had an account with them for years, which is why I'm reviewing them here.
You've probably heard of some of these casinos before, which is a sign you're dealing with a big company here. Betsson AB itself is actually publicly traded on Nasdaq Stockholm as BETS B
(if you fancy investing).
Anyway, they're licensed by the Malta Gaming Authority, which is the gold standard when it comes to online casino licenses. It's expensive and involves a lot of regulation, so it's a quick indicator that you're dealing with a very formal operation.
But at the same time this means a lot of their energy is invested in ticking boxes and meeting license requirements, and as a result other areas of their operation (e.g support) have suffered because of it.
Overall Betsafe is run by a reliable company, and you can be confident that your money is safe with them. The only downside is you're dealing with a corporate and personality-free business that only exists to meet requirements and take your money, because at the end of the day they answer to bureaucracy first.
This is why I prefer using smaller online casinos like Cloudbet.
Website: Excellent
Betsafe has a professional website. It looks cool too.
It's obvious they've got an experienced team of web developers working on it. The layout is clean and the navigation is simple. The color scheme makes good of dark tones to create a relaxing aesthetic, and I'd go as far as saying it's the most easy-on-the-eye casino website I've used.
It's got the same level of stylishness that the 888 Casino website is going for, but Betsafe have actually done a decent job of it by developing a website that loads quickly.
Mobile: Good
- Mobile: Yes
- iPhone App: No
- Android App: No
Betsafe Casino doesn't have an iPhone or Android app, but their website works well on mobile.
It's definitely not as good as their desktop version though. I mean, it works fine, but you lose a lot of the navigation that the desktop website has, so you're left scrolling through pages of games to find what you're looking for. It's not a problem, but it's obvious they've sacrificed on the navigation for mobile users.
But aside from that, it looks good and loads quickly enough.
The main navigational webpages do feel a little "heavy" on mobile though. For example, when you're side-scrolling through the Netflix-style layout of casino games there is a noticeable lag. It's not the snappiest of experiences, and that's most likely down to over-usage of javascript.
But that's just me being critical. I think I've been spoilt by their excellent desktop website design and I have unattainably high expectations for their mobile offering too, but in reality it's still very good.
Games: Excellent
Roulette Variants:
- Live Roulette: No
- Racetrack: No
- La Partage / En Prison: No
Providers:
The selection of roulette games (and all kinds of casino games for that matter) is the biggest selling point of Betsafe, and in my opinion is the main reason why you'd consider playing here.
They've got all the original versions of roulette including French roulette (which gives you the best possible house edge of 1.35%), along with a bunch of weird and modern variants that put a new spin on the game. For example:
- Double Ball Roulette - Two balls instead of one.
- Lightning Roulette - Some numbers are randomly given huge payout multipliers.
- Alphabet Roulette - Some numbers are replaced with letters.
Usually these games have a worse house edge than the classic versions, but you might find them fun if you're a purveyor of roulette.
Betsafe have partnered with a large number of software providers, so they have more games than other online casinos do. They have casino games from Evolution, GamesInc, Felt, Play'n Go, NetEntCasino, Relax Gaming, and a few others. So they've put the effort in to be able to provide one of the largest varieties of casino games on the market.
This is not even mentioning the huge choice of Live Dealer tables on offer as well.
Unfortunately not all of these game providers are available in all countries, so you may not be access some of the more unusual variants listed above. The easiest way to check is to just create an account and see which games show up in the lobby.
The selection is pretty good in most countries though.
Banking: Okay
Payment Methods:
- Deposit Time: Day
- Payout Time: Day
Betsafe Casino has all the traditional payment methods you would expect from a large online gambling company, such as; credit/debit card, online wallet, and bank transfer.
They do not offer bitcoin as an option though, but that's no surprise (most larger, old-school companies are too regulated to touch it).
Withdrawals are fairly slow however, with the majority of withdrawals taking 2-5 working days on average.
So it's a robust cashier, but they don't hurry your withdrawals.
The deposit and withdrawal options will differ from one country to another, so it's best to log in and see what's on offer to get a complete list of what's available in your country. The methods above are the most commonly accepted ones.
Bonus: Awful
Betsafe Casino has different bonuses for different countries. I'm not going to cover every bonus here, so I'll just show the most common bonus they offer and use it as an illustration for how their bonuses tend to work.
- 30 days
- 40x Bonus Amount
Winnings Trap. You forfeit any winnings if you do not redeem the full bonus with 30 days.
Deposit Trap. You cannot withdraw anything until you have redeemed the full bonus.
Bet Limit. You can only bet up to €6 per game when trying to redeem the bonus. This severely hampers your chances of redeeming the bonus before going broke.
Betsafe Casino has a typical 100% up to €100 new player bonus, with a wagering requirement of 40x
and a time frame of 30 days. At first glance this is about as standard of a bonus you're going to find in the world of online casinos.
For example, if you make a €100 deposit, you'll get an extra €100 added to your account. You now have to wager 40 x €100 = €4000
to be able to be able to withdraw the bonus money you have been given. However, there are two things you need to be aware of:
- Bets made on roulette only count 10% toward the wagering requirement, which means in reality you would need to wager €40,000 to meet the full requirements.
- Bets are limited to €6 when working toward the wagering requirement, which reduces the speed at which you can redeem the bonus.
As a result the wagering requirements are impossibly high, and the €6 bet limit ensures that you will grind your deposit down to nothing before you can actually redeem the bonus. The high wagering requirement is standard, but it's the inconspicuous €6 limit that kills your chances of getting anything from this bonus.
These kinds of bonuses do not reflect well on the companies that offer them.
But as always, these bonuses are just there to get you addicted to playing slots so you can deposit more and more in the future.
Betsafe know what they are doing, and in my book this bonus is best avoided if you are hoping to win some money (and withdraw it when you want to).
Contribution table
Game | Contribution | Total Wagering Requirement |
---|---|---|
Slots | 100% | 40x |
Roulette | 10% | 400x |
Blackjack | 5% | 800x |
Support: Awful
- Live Chat
- [email protected]
- Yes
Support at Betsafe is hit and miss, but mostly miss.
Live Chat has been particularly annoying for me in the past. There have been occasions where you can only get through to an automated bot, and it just sends you around in circles without actually allowing you to get through to a real human being. It's incredibly frustrating, especially when you genuinely need help with something.
Email can be even worse. I've had multiple emails about an honest request for help ignored over many weeks of trying. It was only over a small issue, but it made me realize that the company is prepared to ignore you if they're not interested in trying to help, even if they've made a mistake.
I don't think they're a bad company, but their support is disappointing.
I think Betsafe is a great casino if you're happy to just deposit, play, and hope to not run in to any issues that require help from support. And to be honest, the majority of the time you won't need it.
Some staff have tried to be helpful on occasion, but ultimately I do not have confidence in their support.
Conclusion: F
If you don't care about support, Betsafe is a viable option.
Betsafe is run by a large publicly-traded European company, which makes it a fine choice if you're looking for a reliable online casino to play at for real money.
But on the other hand it's a corporate operation with poor support. They're big enough to pay all the official licensing fees and handle all the regulation that comes with it, but they're also too big to be able care about you as a customer. At the end of the day, you're just another number on their books, and you feel like it when you're playing there.
Their greatest redeeming feature is the fact they have a professional website with an excellent selection of casino games, so it's worth checking out if you want to play some of the more unusual variants of online roulette.
So I can't fault Betsafe Casino when it comes to reliability and game selection, but they're not my favorite casino to play at.
If you're looking for a small-but-cool online casino with a good selection of games, check out Cloudbet.
